Process & Product Development engineer bioplastics (Emmerich am Rhein (Germany)

Role and Responsibilities

Innovative junior polymer technologist, working in a multidisciplinary, international team of polymer application specialists, with a focus on the development of new bioplastic compounds and improvement of existing materials. The candidate will work alone or with team members on extrusion compounding and other commonly applied plastic converting technologies like film blowing, sheet extrusion and injection moulding. For interpretation of experimental results it is important to have a good theoretical background and understanding of polymer science, including interpretation of analytical data on rheology, spectroscopy (like FT-IR), thermal analysis (DSC, TGA) and alike. The candidate will come with new proposals for experiments for material development and work out experimental set ups as will be defined by the team. Experimental activities need to be accurately documented and communicated.
Activities are predominantly performed at BIOTEC’s Technikum, and occasionally externally (customers, machine suppliers etc.). The candidate should be able to understand scientific literature and patent descriptions.
The department of Business Development & Product Innovation works in close cooperation with Marketing & Sales

Qualifications and Education Requirements
A good understanding of processing-structure-property relationships of (bio)polymers on academic level (by education or experience). A multidisciplinary approach in problem solving is essential.

Preferred Skills

  • Creative, enthusiastic working attitude with the ability to think out-of-the-box
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing in English and German are required. Speaking another language like French, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian is a nice bonus
  • Accurate, pragmatic, result oriented working attitude with a high degree of flexibility (no 9 to 5 mentality)
  • Curious and willing to learn new techniques and methods
  • Good sense of humor
  • Team player

Arapaha is looking for a Circular Application Manager (she/he) with a strong affinity with circular economy, technology, recycling, circular manufacturing and development of advanced biomaterials in a fully closed loop system. This is a unique role if you are fed up with how we consume and want to join us to develop fossil free, climate friendly and closed loop durable consumer products.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate the technical activities to develop Arapaha products from idea stage to launch stage specifically for our injection moulding, composite, hot melt initiatives.
Support and coordinate our activities on mechanical and chemical recycling.
Implement and coordinate the Arapaha projects with universities, institutes, suppliers and business partners
Align communication between external partners and internal stakeholders (R&D, operations, communication, leadership, partners)
Other assignments on a case-by-case basis

Qualifications

At least BSc level in relevant technical background (e.g. chemistry or chemical engineering) with affinity for working with people in and outside our organisation in dynamic networks.

Strong affinity with circular economy
Experience with injection moulding, composites, mechanical and/or chemical recycling
The ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment and juggle multiple responsibilities amidst shifting deadlines and priorities
Good communication and social skills
Team player
Fluent in English and preferably at least one other European language

Preferred

5 years experience in a relevant technical position
Broad view on durable consumer market segments, and in-depth knowledge of products and/or applications

Location

Start-up head quarter is based in in Maastricht, The Netherlands, and in this growth phase close contact with the rest of the team is crucial. Therefore it is expected that around 70 % of the time will be spend in Maastricht with the rest of the time working at home and/or traveling.
