IMG Group has officially introduced the Everbio Innovation Hub, a new research and development platform dedicated to circular polymers.
Supported by a EUR 15 million investment from C2 Capital Partners, the facility centralizes the expertise of four IMG subsidiaries: Evertis, Selenis, Renascis, and Renewis.
Operating out of IMG’s existing industrial complex in Portalegre, the hub aims to accelerate the creation, testing, and commercialization of advanced bio-based and recycled polymer materials. By unifying packaging design, polymer science, recycling technologies, and renewable energy, the center bridges the traditional divide between lab-scale breakthroughs and high-volume industrial manufacturing.
Breaking new ground in recycling technology
The hub’s flagship innovation is perPETuity®, a solvent-free recycling methodology engineered to process intricate, multi-layer plastics into ultra-pure PET flakes exceeding 99.9% purity. The resulting material matches the quality of virgin plastic, clearing it for strict use-cases like healthcare and food-grade packaging.
"Everbio represents our next major evolution – a collaborative space where our polymer, packaging, recycling, and green energy businesses turn circular economy theories into mass-production realities", said Manuel Matos Gil, President of IMG Group. "Delivering circular materials at scale isn't a long-term goal anymore; it is happening right now."
Streamlining R&D for evolving regulations
Though its roots trace back to consolidation efforts starting in 2024, the newly unified hub centralizes R&D initiatives that were previously fractured across Renascis, Selenis, and Evertis. The €15 million injection from C2 Capital Partners is earmarked to scale the perPETuity® process, alongside advancing bioplastic and recycled film alternatives.
The platform's rollout aligns with tightening environmental mandates across Europe. Under the incoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), all packaging sold within the EU must be fully recyclable by 2030 and incorporate strict quotas of recycled content. The Everbio Innovation Hub aims to shield consumer brands from compliance risks by providing internal testing and large-scale coextrusion capabilities, allowing them to meet regulatory benchmarks without sacrificing material performance.
