Every year, B Lab, the global nonprofit network that certifies and mobilises Certified B Corporations, recognizes the top-performing B Corps creating the greatest impact through their businesses.
These B Corps are named Best for the World as their verified scores in the five impact areas evaluated on the B Impact Assessment (BIA)—community, customers, environment, governance, and workers—are amongst the global top 5% in their corresponding size group.
Among the companies recognized this year is Novamont, which has been named a Best for The World 2021 in the impact area Environment.
The recognized in this area are characterized by B Lab as ‘leading the way towards a more sustainable and regenerative planet by putting their impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity first in their business practices. These B Corps excel in environmental performance by offering products or services designed to solve an environmental issue or through their facilities, materials, emissions, and resource and energy use, as well as transportation/distribution channels and the environmental impact of their supply chain’.
“The nomination acknowledges our positive impact on the environment, having achieved the highest standards of sustainability through our circular bioeconomy model,” said the company.
Novamont obtained the B Corp Certification in 2020 with a score of
excellence of 104. According to B Lab, its development model is based on
the creation of sustainable integrated value chains and the
revitalization of no longer competitive production and research sites to
create new value, new products and new jobs. It develops and produces
products of vegetable origin, biodegradable and compostable, conceived
as solutions to specific problems strictly connected with the quality of
water and soil. With a portfolio of around 1,800 patents and patent
applications, it is also a R&D centre and a training centre for
young and experienced researchers.
Today there are more than 4,000
Certified B Corporations across 77 countries and 153 industries, unified
by one common goal: transforming the global economy to benefit all
people, communities, and the planet.
Close to 800 B Corps from more
than 50 countries were named to the 2021 Best for the World lists,
including 4G Capital, KeepCup, Natura, The Big Issue Group, TOMS, Too
Good To Go, and Patagonia. The full lists are available at https://bcorporation.net/best-for-the-world-2021.
