New BioAmber plant earns quality certifications

Renewable materials company BioAmber Inc. announced yesterday that its Sarnia production plant, jointly owned with Mitsui & Co., has received ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and FSSC 22000 certifications. These certifications were granted by accredited certification bodies following audits of the Sarnia plant in Q4 2015.

By achieving these certifications BioAmber has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing customer satisfaction through the implementation of an integrated management system. BioAmber has put in place processes that ensure continual improvement and conformity to customer, statutory and regulatory requirements.

“Obtaining these certifications within four months of start-up is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the operational excellence practiced by our Sarnia team,” said Jean-Francois Huc, BioAmber’s Chief Executive Officer. “These certifications demonstrate that BioAmber Sarnia is a reliable and professional supplier of bio-based chemicals. They also position us as an industry leader in the fast growing field of sustainable chemicals production,” he added.

ISO 9001:2008 is an international standard governing quality management systems. The scope includes customer satisfaction and the management of continual improvement. ISO 14001:2004 is an international standard governing environmental management systems. The scope includes determining the environmental impact and the relevant regulations in the operation of the business, continually analyzing results and improving the systems. OHSAS 18001:2007 is an internationally applied British standard governing occupational health and safety management systems. It assists organizations in managing and controlling their occupational health and safety risks and continually improving performance. FSSC 22000:2005 is an ISO based international standard governing the food safety management systems of food manufacturers. It is based on HACCP principles and recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).(KL)
