Malama Composites Earns USDA Certified Biobased Product Certification and Label for Pacific BioFoam

Malama Composites, Inc. has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label and is identified for Federal preferred purchasing for its Pacific BioFoam™ product.

usdaThe USDA Certified Biobased Product Label verifies that the product’s renewable bio-based content meets or exceeds levels set by USDA. Biobased products are finished or intermediate materials composed in whole or in significant part of agricultural, forestry, or marine ingredients.

Malama Composites develops and manufacturers rigid urethane foams made from sustainable resources. These are core materials that enable manufacturers to produce final products that are strong, lightweight, non-toxic, and far more easily recycled than petroleum-based foams. Pacific BioFoam is a 2-pound density, 2-part pour foam that uses water as its sole blowing agent, and is free of HCFC’s or pentane

Chairman and CEO, David Saltman said, "Pacific BioFoam has achieved the highest bio-content of any commercially available two-part urethane foam system on the market today. It achieves this with competitive structural performance and insulation value, making it ideal for insulated packaging, consumer appliances, refrigerated containers, hot tubs, architectural moldings, formwork, and automotive applications.”

“Our product is a zero emission material that uses a vegetable polyol and water as the sole blowing agent. Independent tests at Westpak demonstrated absolute structural and insulation parity with alternative, petroleum-based alternatives. From a lifecycle perspective, Pacific BioFoam can be easily ground up and used as a sweeping compound or soil amendment once it

Biofoam1has served its original purpose.”

All bio-based amount claims are verified by independent labs and monitored by the USDA. Consumers may feel secure in the accuracy of the bio-based amount and be empowered in making better-informed purchasing decisions.

"We are proud that Malama Composites, Inc. has earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label," said Ron Buckhalt, USDA BioPreferred Program Manager. "Biobased products add value to renewable agriculture commodities, create jobs in rural communities and help our nation decrease its reliance on foreign-sourced and non-renewable petroleum." (KL)
